Canada and Ghana Sign First Air Transport Agreement: What Travellers Should Know

Aviation update · Canada and Ghana

On 5 March 2025, Transport Canada announced the first air transport agreement between Canada and Ghana. The agreement allows both countries to designate multiple airlines to operate scheduled services and gives airlines the right to serve points in both countries.

What does the agreement provide?

  • Multiple airline designations by each country.
  • Access to points in Canada and Ghana under the agreement.
  • Capacity for up to 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly all-cargo flights for airlines of each country.

Does this mean a new direct flight is guaranteed?

No. The agreement creates a framework for airlines to introduce or expand services; it does not itself confirm a specific airline, route, timetable, fare or launch date. Travellers should check current schedules with airlines or an authorised booking channel before making plans.

For clients travelling between Ghana and Canada, it remains important to compare routing, transit requirements, baggage rules and ticket conditions before purchase.
