Canada Study Pathways: New Official Figures Highlight Ghana’s Student Presence
Canada Study Pathways: New Official Figures Highlight Ghana’s Student Presence
Study travel insight · Canada
Canada’s official Canada–Ghana relations page reports that Ghana was the second-largest source country for international students from sub-Saharan Africa in 2024, with 7,760 student permits issued. The same page reports 4,285 student permits issued in 2025.
What does this mean for prospective students?
The figures show an established education connection between Ghana and Canada, but they should not be interpreted as a forecast or a guarantee of admission or a study permit. Each applicant must meet the requirements that apply to their programme, institution and personal circumstances.
Prepare carefully before you apply
- Research a recognised institution and a programme that fits your academic and career history.
- Understand tuition, living costs and the source of funds for the proposed study.
- Prepare a clear study plan and supporting documents.
- Check the current Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requirements before submitting an application.
Remember: Admission to a school and approval of a Canadian study permit are separate decisions. No agency can guarantee a permit outcome.
